Egyptologist Gomaa Abdel-maksoud and his team of researchers recently investigated the prevalence of arterial disease in mummies using CT scans. While the majority of mummies could be placed into the scanner without problems, some mummies had to be scanned while still in their coffins. One of whom was Djeher, who lived sometime between 304 BC and 30 BC. His carcass was found to have heart artery and other vascular disease, making him one of the oldest known cases of coronary artery disease.
